What's Noiseware?

A couple of you have asked: What's Noiseware? Noiseware removes the "noise" or the "grain" that appears in your photo in dim light settings.

I've gathered a couple of examples for you:

Here's a great example for how your ISO can affect your photo (from the Mom and Camera blog):

I'm still VERY much learning about photography... but, I always adjust my ISO last. My camera doesn't handle higher ISO's too well. It also doesn't help that my house is pretty dark with all this Pacific NW weather.... :D

There are ways to adjust any noise in Photoshop... but, I haven't explored that yet. For now I use NoiseWare Community Edition. It's free and simple to use. It comes with 10 free filters. The downside of the free version is you can only work on one photo at a time, it reduces the size of your photo and clears out your EXIF data. But, it's great if you don't have photoshop or just can't figure out how to get rid of noise. :)

Here's a great tutorial I found to reduce noise in Photoshop.

  2. I've tried downloading the free noiseware and got it in the right folder and stuff for CS5 but when I run it it says i need a 'key' and if not they would put a grid over the photo? I dunno, i'm sure i'm doing something silly wrong in my steps but it drives me nuts lol!

  3. I haven't used my community noiseware in a while - it does erase your exif data and will significantly shrink your files. I do like using the noiseware option in PS though - I use median.

  4. THANK YOU!!!! After you mentioned that you used Noiseware in another of your posts I Googled it (what would we do without Google?) but I only saw the version you have to pay for (it was like 70 bucks). Now I just downloaded the free version! I also have problems with low light and my pictures usually have noise, so this is great!!!!
