PS tutorial: Adding a rainbow

I posted this photo last week for Touch Up Tuesday {on my personal blog}, and promised a tutorial, so, here it is! I thought this was kinda fun and I wanted to share! {I actually saw this on a website a couple years ago, and I can't remember which one. So you'll have to bear with me as I try to take you through this!}

It will seem a lot more complicated then it really is :)

Here is my SOOC shot:
The first thing we need to do, is make sure that we have the right tools available. Follow the steps below to set up your gradient with the rainbow effect!
We will want to create a new layer, this will make it easier to work with the rainbow.
Make sure your new layer is highlighted when you create your rainbow! During this step, you will probably use your "undo" button quite a bit until you get it just right.

Now we're going to create a layer mask.
For this next step, we're going to "blur" our rainbow, so that it looks more realistic.
I after I added the rainbow, I edited the photo just a bit! And Viola!!!
